High Court of Karnataka quashes Enforcement Directorate summons issued to CM Siddaramaiah's wife Parvathi & State Minister BS Suresha in MUDA case, reported news agency ANI.

The matter was heard by a single judge, Justice M Nagaprasanna, who struck down the summons filed by the Enforcement Directorate. Along with quashing the summons for the Chief Minister's wife, the summons for Urban Development Minister Byrathi Suresh was also dismissed.

As per LiveLaw, the court observed that the existence of proceeds of crime is not enough to invoke provisions under the Prevention of Money Laundering (PMLA) Act.

“Just the existence of dirty money is not enough for PMLA. The entire argument of mine would be that to attract provisions of PMLA unless there is activity in furtherance of proceeds of crime, PMLA will not be attracted," stated senior advocate Sandesh J Chouta, who appeared for Parvathi.

Meanwhile, Senior Advocate CV Nagesh, appearing for minister BS Suresh stated the minister assumed office in June 2023 and is not connected to the illegal allotment of sites.

"My tenure commenced only in June 2023. Before that I was an utter stranger to MUDA. Moreoverxxbr, the basis of the complaint is a private complaint. In that there is not even a remotest mention about me. No reference has been made to the petitioner. Then what is the object of issuing the notice?" the advocate added further.
